Our Fiber
Yarn from rescued alpacas.
Our two Huacaya alpacas, Mike and Al, serve as the guardian animals for our flock of chickens. They keep four-legged predators at bay by making alarm calls and kicking and spitting if necessary. They are excellent at their jobs!
We adopted Mike and Al from a farm animal rescue in Pennsylvania. They are brothers, born about a year apart. Thankfully, they do not have a sad past and are healthy, well-adjusted adults. They love sunbathing on fresh pasture, snacking on cabbage leaves, and Mike likes to play in the water trough. They get sheared every April, and we collect and sort their wool based on hair length, quality, and cleanliness.
Alpaca FAQs:
Alpacas are originally from South America and were bred for their wool.
Alpacas are smaller than llamas, and are related to camels.
They are incredibly tidy and establish a communal dung pile in each pasture section.
They make humming sounds when curious, and a bird-like screech when agitated.
Our boys are best friends and are rarely more than a few feet apart.
